How to Clean Baseboards Without Kneeling? (The Easiest Way)

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY DISCLOSURE FOR MORE INFO.

If you have baseboards or skirting boards as we call them In Australia in your home, chances are you’ve seen the pile of dust that gathers around them. And if there is one thing you want to avoid, it’s having to kneel down and reach out your arm to wipe it away. But never fear! There is an easier way. All it takes is a few cleaning tools, as well as some time to spare.

Kneeling to clean baseboards can be difficult, especially if you have back or knee problems. But there’s an easier way to avoid the strain of bending over — and it doesn’t involve using a scrubber on your hands and knees!

The easiest way to clean your baseboards without kneeling is by using a duster with an extendable handle followed by a mop.

Steps to Clean Baseboards Without Kneeling Down – The Fastest, Easiest Way …

Let me show you in 2 steps how to clean your baseboards without kneeling!

  1. DUST. Grab yourself a duster with an extendable handle. I use the one from White Magic found here.

Using a good quality duster will make it easier for you to pick up all the dust that is on your baseboards.

Simply extend the handle on the duster, and then start in one corner of the room, and run the duster over all the baseboards.

Do this in each room of your home.

  1. MOP. Use a mop and bucket.

For this to work well, you would need to have a mop and bucket system that uses a mop head that is made of long strands, like a spin mop, or a microfibre mop head. I use the spin mop from White Magic found here.

Fill your bucket with hot water and either your favourite floor cleaner or some of your favourite essential oils.

Starting in one corner of the room again, dip your mop into your bucket of water, wring out, and then run it along your baseboards.

Only go in one direction. Do not mop back and forth along the baseboards, as you will drag dirt back up the clean area of your baseboards.

If you need to go over an area again, do it in the same direction.

This is the exact method I use to keep my baseboards clean. I do once a month get down on my hands and knees and give them a good scrub though, but if getting down on your knees, is something that you can not do, then using the duster and mop method weekly, or monthly depending on how dusty it is in the area you live in, will keep your baseboards at their best!

How To Make Your Own Cleaning Spray For Baseboards?

If you would like to make your own cleaning spray, there are a few things you would need. These are simple ingredients that come together to form a cleaner that is great for all cleaning jobs! Here is what you will need:

-1 cup white vinegar

-3/4 Cup of Dishwashing Liquid (clear is best).

Spray Bottle

Place vinegar and dishwashing liquid into a microwave-proof bowl. Heat for 1 minute. Stir gently and then pour it into your spray bottle.

You do not need to re-heat each time you need to use it. Simply swirl your spray bottle gently, DO NOT shake it, as this will cause too many bubbles. Store in a cool, dark place (out of direct sunlight), and swirl well before each use.

How to Get Stains Out of Baseboards

Stains on the baseboards are often impossible to remove completely. However, it is possible to make them less visible if you know how to clean them. These may require you to get down on your knees to remove the stain.

Find a Solution for Removing the Stain

There are many possible solutions for removing the stain, and some work better on different types of stains. To find a solution that works well for your stain, you need to determine what kind of stain you are dealing with.

If the stain is grease or oil, try cleaning it with a cloth soaked in hydrogen peroxide. Dab it on the stain and dab at it gently until you remove all of the excess grease or oil. Then wash the area thoroughly with soap and water, dry it and polish it afterwards if necessary.

If the stain is water or a drink that has left a ring, you can try dabbing the area with a cloth soaked in white vinegar. Then wash and dry it.

If the stain is rust, use liquid detergent mixed with water to blot out as much of it as possible. Then use an oxalic acid-based powder to remove the rest of the stain, or alternately baking soda dissolved in water can suffice if you are dealing with small rust stains. Wash and dry thoroughly afterwards.

If the stain is paint, find out what type of paint it is and try to get a solvent made for the same type as your particular paint. Saturate a cloth in it and dab the stain with the cloth. Then wash and dry thoroughly after you have removed all of the excess paint.

My Personal Favourtite Baseboard Cleaning Tool

I like to clean my baseboards with a magic eraser sponge. They are fantastic little cleaners. I have used these sponges for years on many different cleaning jobs and they always impress me. These sponges work really well, are very versatile, and are super-inexpensive. The only drawback of these sponges is the really cheap ones fall apart easily.

My personal favourite magic erasers are the ones by White Magic. These sponges are very well-made and come in a range of different sizes. They don’t fall apart easily, have a nice feel and the sponge is very comfortable to grip.

Here is what I do with my magic eraser sponge: Firstly you need to wet it. Simply hold it under cold water and then squeeze the excess water out.

Then simply use it to rub over your baseboards. I find that these little magic erasers, almost always remove all marks and stains from my baseboards.

When you have finished using the sponge, rinse it out (you will see all the dirt wash out of it), squeeze it out as much as you can, and then let air dry until you are ready to use it again.

Magic erasers are still very effective after a month or two of use because these little tools don’t lose their effectiveness over time. They do slowly shrink as you are using them, nevertheless, this is not an issue, as that’s how the product works. You simply just need to grab a new one!

So there you have it, a simple, effective way to clean your baseboards without kneeling.

The idea is simple, the method is easy.

The purpose is to eliminate the dust and dirt accumulated along the baseboards without kneeling.

I use this method on a monthly basis. I have been very pleased with my results so far. It’s really not that hard to do, so next time you need to clean your baseboards consider this method.
